How to sell on Vinted in the UK

New to selling on Vinted in the UK? This guide covers the practical bits: how fees actually work for sellers, how to set up your account, what tends to move, how to write titles with UK sizes, how to price for offers, and how postage labels work at a high level — plus a calm pointer on HMRC reporting.

No fake earnings figures. No “guaranteed views.” Just a clear beginner path so you can list properly and avoid the usual traps.

Is Vinted free for UK sellers?

Short version: Vinted's Help Centre says there are no fees for selling — you list items and, when something sells via Buy now, you receive the item price according to Vinted's payout rules. Buyers typically pay an extra platform charge on top of your listed price (historically described as Buyer Protection; Vinted's wording can change — always check the live checkout breakdown).

What that means in practice:

  • You set the item price. That is what you are aiming to receive for the item itself (before any optional seller tools you choose to buy).
  • The buyer sees more than your list price — item + postage + the platform fee shown at checkout.
  • Fee percentages change and vary. Do not price from a random TikTok number. Read the current rules on Vinted UK Help: Selling basics (Vinted Help), and browse the fee / Buyer Protection / “Vinted fee” articles for the wording that applies today.

We do not invent fee percentages on this page. If Help and the app disagree with something you read elsewhere, trust Help and the checkout screen.

Set up: account, payouts, basics

  1. Create your account on vinted.co.uk (or the UK app) with a real first name and a clear profile photo. Trust matters when buyers decide whether to click Buy now.
  2. Add a short bio — style, sizes you favour, what you usually list (e.g. “high-street jackets, UK 10–14, clean preloved”).
  3. Verify what Vinted asks for (phone / identity steps as shown in-app). Skipping verification often delays your first payout.
  4. Connect a payout method early so your first sale does not sit stuck while you sort banking details.
  5. Stay inside Vinted for chat and payment. Off-platform deals remove the protection both sides rely on and usually break the rules.

Optional but useful: turn on notifications for offers and messages. Slow replies lose sales.

What sells (and what to avoid buying “because it's cute”)

If you are clearing your own wardrobe, start with clean, branded, in-season pieces in common UK sizes. High-street and everyday wear often moves faster than niche aesthetic stock — though Depop-style presentation still helps photos and titles. For the switch mindset (keep your aesthetic skills, use Vinted for volume), see Depop vs Vinted UK.

If you are buying to resell, one line from experienced UK flippers is worth tattooing on your notes app:

“Listed means nothing. Sold tells you the real price.”

Before you spend money on stock:

  • Search sold / completed comps (or recent sales behaviour in your category) — not only what people are asking.
  • Factor postage and your time. Thin margins on fast-fashion tees often disappear once you pack, drop off, and wait for completion.
  • Don't buy cute. Buy what you can photograph clearly, describe honestly, and still make sense after the label cost and the hour you will spend on it.

No supplier list and no “this always sells” claims here — just the filter that stops margin blindness.

Photos + titles that get clicked

Photos

  • Daylight near a window; plain background.
  • Show front, back, label/size tag, fabric close-up, and every flaw.
  • True colour beats heavy filters. Buyers hate surprises; disputes eat your time.

Titles (UK listing language)

Lead with what people type into search:

Brand · item · colour · UK size · useful detail

Examples of the pattern (not magic keywords):

  • Nike Air Force 1 white trainers UK 6
  • Zara wool-blend coat black UK 10
  • Levi's 501 straight jeans light wash W28 L32

Put UK size (or brand size + measured flat notes in the description) where buyers expect it. EU-only sizing without a UK translation loses clicks.

Zero views? Don't panic about “shadowbans” first

When a listing sits on 0 views, the useful checklist is boring and effective:

  1. Is the title actually searchable (brand + item + colour + UK size)?
  2. Are the first photos clear on a phone screen?
  3. Is the price wildly above recent sold comps?
  4. Have you relisted or refreshed stale items?

There is no guaranteed way to get views. Anyone promising a hack for infinite reach is selling anxiety. For a deeper checklist: Get more views / listing SEO.

Pricing for offers (“online car boot”)

Vinted buyer culture often feels like an online car boot sale: people test a lower number, ask for bundles, and walk away if you have zero room.

Practical approach (qualitative — not a rigid formula):

  • Check what sold, not only what is listed.
  • Price with negotiation room so a reasonable offer still works for you.
  • Bundle discounts can move two items faster than one stubborn singleton.
  • Do not take the first lowball personally — and do not accept every offer either.

If your floor is £12 after postage and time, do not list at £12 “because it might sell today.” Leave yourself somewhere to meet in the middle.

Postage UK (high-level)

On Vinted UK, when a buyer pays with Buy now and chooses an integrated option, they usually purchase a prepaid label for you to use. You then pack the item and send it with the carrier and service the buyer selected.

You can enable or disable some postage options under Profile → Settings → Postage (availability depends on location, parcel size, and what Vinted currently offers). Important: once an order is placed, you generally cannot switch the buyer's chosen shipping option without cancelling and starting again — see Vinted Help.

Carriers you may see (verify before you rely on this)

UK sellers commonly encounter options such as Evri and InPost, among others (Vinted's Help also lists providers like DPD, Royal Mail, and more depending on the order). Carrier lists change — always verify in-app and on live Help. (Yodel appeared in older guides; as of a 2026-09-14 Help check it was not confirmed as a current documented option.)

Useful Help links:

Pack well (poly mailer or sturdy bag, no perfume, protect corners). Send within the deadline shown on the order. Tracked labels protect you when something goes missing — that is the point of staying inside the system.

Relisting and replies

  • Reply to offers and questions quickly. Silence reads as “gone cold.”
  • Relist slow movers periodically so they behave like fresh inventory again.
  • Keep descriptions honest when you relist — same flaws, updated price if the market moved.
  • After a sale, leave feedback when the order completes; it builds the trust loop for the next buyer.

Relisting is maintenance, not a loophole. Combined with clearer titles, it is the sane response to “why does this have no views?”

When you're trading regularly: HMRC pointer

This is not tax advice. We are not accountants. If your situation is unclear, use official tools or speak to a qualified adviser.

Two separate ideas get mixed up online:

  1. Platform reporting — digital marketplaces (including Vinted) may collect seller details and report information to HMRC when certain activity thresholds are met. Vinted explains this in Help; completing a form or seeing a report does not automatically mean you owe tax.
  2. Your own tax position — clearing personal belongings is treated differently from buying goods to sell for profit. GOV.UK has guidance on trading income, the trading allowance, and when you may need to tell HMRC.

Calm reading list:

Reporting ≠ an automatic tax bill. Panic-scrolling TikTok threads is optional; reading the two official sources above is not.

FAQ

Do sellers pay fees on Vinted UK?

Vinted's Help Centre states there are no fees for selling in the usual Buy-now flow; buyers pay a separate platform charge shown at checkout. Always confirm on Vinted selling basics and the live price breakdown — we do not publish invented percentages.

How do I get more views on Vinted?

Start with searchable titles (brand, item, colour, UK size), clear daylight photos, sensible pricing against sold comps, and relist stale stock. There is no guaranteed views trick. More detail: Get more views / listing SEO.

Which postage should I use — Evri, InPost, or another label?

Usually the buyer chooses among the integrated options you have enabled (often including Evri or InPost — lists change). Use the prepaid label Vinted generates for that order. Verify in-app and on Vinted shipping Help.

Is Depop or Vinted better in the UK?

Different strengths: Depop often suits aesthetic / curated selling; Vinted is built for fast second-hand volume with a seller-fee model described in Help. Full comparison: Depop vs Vinted UK.

Does HMRC tax all Vinted sales?

Not automatically. Platform reporting and tax liability are different questions. Read Vinted's HMRC Help and GOV.UK's online platforms guidance. This FAQ is not tax advice.

Can I sell if I am still learning?

Yes. Start with a few items from your own wardrobe, photograph them honestly, price with a little room for offers, and ship on time. Perfect systems come later. If you are under 18, follow Vinted's age rules and account requirements (including any parental/guardian steps the app asks for) — we are not giving teen trading advice beyond “stay inside the app and be honest.”
